The Washington Post reports he paid $960,000 to Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl to lobby for the pardon, then hired lobbyist Josh Nass. Federal prosecutors later charged Nass with extortion, alleging he hired a convicted racketeer to threaten Schwartz's son over $500,000 Nass claimed he was owed for pardon work — a charge against the lobbyist, not the recipient, and unadjudicated. ProPublica reports that judgments held by former employees and nursing-home victims remain unsatisfied.
