Reuters and CNBC reported that on February 26, 2025, the SEC and Tron founder Justin Sun jointly sought a 60-day stay of the SEC's 2023 civil fraud suit against him to explore a resolution. Sun had invested $30 million in World Liberty Financial in November 2024, later raised to $75 million. Reuters calculated the purchases would have sent about $56 million to the Trump family under the distribution agreement. Sun did not respond to Reuters and the SEC declined to comment.

What this establishes

  • A documented chronology: a large investment in the president's family-linked venture, followed within weeks of the new administration by a pause in the investor's enforcement case.

What this does not establish

  • That the stay was granted because of the investment; the SEC's stated context was its new crypto task force framework and a broad enforcement retreat.
  • Any agreement between Sun and any official.
